IPL Hair Removal

How Does IPL Permanent Hair Reduction Work?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) emits a range of light wavelengths that are absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles and creates a rise in the temperature of the follicle. IPL removes unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The light penetrates through the skin and is selectively absorbed in the pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft and is heated to 70 degrees Celcius. This energy causes the temperature in the hair follicle to rise to a sufficiently high level to destroy the structure and prevent regrowth.
Because the energy is selectively absorbed by the hair that contains higher concentrations of melanin the surrounding skin does not heat up to the same level and the treatment is more comfortable.
Because hair grows in cycles, and the most effective treatment occurs within the hair’s active growth phase, with only 20-30% of hairs in any area being in the active growth phase at one time, so several treatments are necessary. On average four to six treatments are necessary, spaced 6 weeks apart.
